Fumigant toxicity of norbornanetetraacetate, cyclooctanetetraacetate and 7-oxanorbornene derivative against the stored product insect pest sitophilus granarius (l.)
The chemical compounds norbornanetetraacetate (1b), cyclooctane-l,2,5,6- tetraacetate (2b), and lactone 3 showed fumigant toxicity against adults of Sitophilus gr?n?rius (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). The P-value tests were carried out to determine the statistical significance of dose and time combinations against the insect. Norbornanetetraacetate (lb) was the most toxic of the three compounds tested in 3 ?L (1 ?L/L air) within the first 24 h after application. The same level of toxicity was obtained with cyclooctane-l,2,5,6-te-traacetate (2b) in 3 ?L at 48 h. On the other hand, lactone 3 was the most toxic of the three compounds tested in 3 ?L (1 ?L/L air) at 72 h. In 9 ?L (3 ?L/L air), norbornanetetraacetate (lb) was the most toxic of the three compounds tested on adult S. gr?n?rius up to 48 h. Norbornanetetraacetate (lb) was more toxic than lactone 3 and cyclooc-tane-l,2,5,6-tetraacetate (2b) at 6-48 h in 9 ?L (3 ?L/L air), and as toxic as lactone 3 at 72 h. In general, norbornanetetraacetate (lb) is more toxic than cyclooctane-1,2, 5,6-tetraacetate (2b) and lactone 3 at all doses and exposure times against adult S. gr?n?rius.
